shirt number book
About 75 years ago shirt numbers were introduced on football shirts. But as far as I know there hasn't been published anything about the typography of the football shirts so far. That's why I wrote down everything I know about this subject in a booklet.

New Exhibition Breaking Away from a Rich Tradition: Experimental Arabic Type
In this exhibition, the work of young design students is showcased in order to present the emerging generations do-it-yourself attitude and desire to establish a modern type design trend in the Arab world. These type design experiments aim to address on one hand the new global design aesthetic, and the on the other hand, to provide design solutions for the needs of modern communication media. The experimental aspect of these new type designs lies in the fact that they intentionally break away from the conventional calligraphic styles and move towards a new design direction that does not strictly abide by the rules of pen-drawn letterforms.

Hans Peter Willberg Obituary
Hans Peter Willberg, a German ATypI member, died on 30 May in Eppstein near Frankfurt. He had been ill for some time.
A german newspaper once called Willberg the "Pope of Typography". That's a perfect description for his rank: he was not only a typographer and one of the greatest book designers, but also a Professor and author of a longlasting list of useful books on Typography. In additrion, HPW was responsible for the "Stiftung Buchkunst" (Foundation good books) when he worked as its Secretary for 8 years. Even more importantly, he initiated the annual competition "Die schünsten deutschen Bücher" (Best designed german books). Tschichold did something similar in Switzerland 20 years previously. I would say that HPW was the second Tschichold.

Typeco releases its second font family -- Chunkfeeder.
Chunkfeeder was inspired by the lettering created for high speed printing and electronic displays by engineers and interface designers who presumably do not have a background in letterform design. In keeping with its mechanical inspiration, Chunkfeeder is monospaced, much like an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) font. Chunkfeeder has a rather rigid modularity but it incorporates more typographic nuance into the letterforms than most other fonts of this style, while exploiting some of the quirky visual artefacts of high speed printing.
