ECIAD, formerly the Vancouver School of Art, is named for the early British Columbia artist Emily Carr, best known for her paintings of abandoned native villages and their totem poles at Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). The institute has developed a reputation as one of the leading art and design schools in Canada.
After the final plenary session at the Westin venue on the morning of Friday 26 September, all remaining conference speaker tracks, demonstrations and workshops, the ATypI auction, and the annual general meeting will take place at ECIAD. Most activities will take place in the design department building picture above, with one speaker track and some workshop events located across the street in the main building. In addition, ECIAD will be hosting a number of typography and type design exhibitions from the Type Directors Club (TDC), Society of Typographic Afficionados (SOTA), and the Morisawa type design competition, as well as an exhibit of faculty and student design work.
Lunch will be provided at the institute on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The gala dinner on Saturday night will be held at Bridges Restaurant, located conveniently close to ECIAD.
ECIAD is also the venue for the optional pre-conference letterpress workshop (Wednesday and Thursday). See Other Events for more information.
