Geography & climate

Vancouver is located just above the 49th parallel, on the west coast of Canada, in North America’s Pacific time zone (UTC/GMT -8). The City of Vancouver proper lies between Burrard Inlet and the North Arm of the Fraser River, and is surrounded by the mountains of the Costal Range. Burrard Inlet is the site of a busy port—the foundation of Vancouver’s trade—with a number of container and grain terminals.

Vancouver area map

Vancouver is in a temperate rain forest region, so the climate is mild but wet for much of the year. The city is often blessed with a late summer, though, that extends warm and sunny weather throughout September. The mean temperature for the conference dates for the past three years is around 14.5°C (58°F).
