'Off-hand' Tufte review slammed a response to David Sless' review of Edward Tufte's latest book. In response to David Slesss critical review of Edward Tuftes work. Mr Sless seems to have missed something. While I agree that at times Mr Tufte has failed in implementing his own teachings, it would be a disservice to everybody to discount his work in such an off-hand manner. We are all faced with shorter deadlines in our working lives. Does this mean we are excused from doing a better job and trying harder. Mr Sless seems to think so. Mr Tufte professor, self publisher, and lecturer tours the country preaching the gospel of good design. Is that so bad? He believes in presenting information with integrity. Is that so bad? He gives directional sense and inspiration to produce better designs in our working lives. Is that so bad? He is reaching the general public with his beatifully produced books. He is helping to educate multitudes of corporate Americas middle managers who so many of us must work with every day. He is honest in his delivery. And is it so bad to encourage people to understand and question the information presented them? Please Mr Tufte, please keep up your evangalistic ways. Karen Parry |
