TransType 2 - Now Universal Font ConversionWithin days Fontlab Ltd. will release TransType 2 for Macintosh, their universal font convertor. TransType 1.0 was able to convert fonts back and forth between Macintosh and Windows font platforms. The second version adds to this the ability to convert seamlessly and simultaneously between TrueType and Type 1 formats as well. So now anyone on either platform can convert a Mac TT font (for instance) into a Windows T1 font with a single keystroke! As an added bonus TR2 also includes Multiple Master conversion AND the ability to make MM instances on either platform. For instance a Mac user could now convert a MM font from Windows to Mac OR they could just create a Mac TT (or T1) font from a Windows Master. TransType 2 has been installed on the computers in the ATypI computer room so anyone can try it out. In addition a demo presentation will be given at 10am Friday in the computer room. Fontlab expects to have TransType 2 up on the web for purchase within a week (maybe even days if we can get it done during the conference ).
