Please note that this dictionary is a beta version. It does not have much data in it yet.
Work on the dictionary content is co-ordinated by Cynthia Batty, ATypI's executive director, who cajoled everyone else into actually doing something about what everyone agreed was a good and useful idea.
Everyone involved in editing the content is a volunteer. This may mean that progress is slow; if you would like it to be faster, see the bottom of this page.
Editors add and edit content. We aim to have at least one editor for each major language community worldwide. So far our editors include, in no particular order:
Maxim Zhukov
Emil Yakupov
Jacques André
Erik Spiekermann
Martin Tiefenthaler (Austria)
Jorge De Buen Unna (Mexico)
Robert Kravjanszki
Mark Barratt
Cynthia Batty
Eric Menninga (InDesign)
Will Powers (Guild terms)
Ben Weiner
Petra Cerne Oven
Hrant H Papazian
Adam Twardoch
The back end of the dictionary was developed at Text Matters by Jamie Munro (mainly systems design and implementation), Ben Weiner (mainly interface design and scripting), and Mark Barratt (mainly interface design and awkward questions). Shoko Mugikura helped us start in Japanese (hiragana, katakana and kanji) and Simon Cozens not only made us realise how little we knew but attempted to show us how to solve the problem of sorting Japanese words.
As with content, we're eager for help with the back end: it's mostly Python, SQL and Zope TAL/TALES. We have lots to do...
