  • New dates for ATypI Hong Kong: 10–14 October 2012

    The Board has moved the conference dates back one week from the dates we first announced, in order to avoid any conflict with the ‘Golden Week’ holiday in China, which is a popular time for family travel. (This also gives us an even better chance of avoiding the tail end of the rainy season in Hong Kong.) Please update your calendars for next year.

  • The magic of type design

    From 10 September until 2 October 2011, Expert class Type design (EcTd) 2010–2011 students of the Plantin Institute for Typography will show their work at the famous Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp. The title of the exhibition is ‘De magie van het letterontwerpen | Van schets tot digitale letter’ (‘The magic of type design | From sketch to digital type’).

  • Final call for typeface designs

    The deadline for submitting typefaces to the 2nd. Type Design Competition of the Association Typographique Internationale is on Monday, August 29. All type designs finalized between August 2001 and August 2011 are eligible for entering the contest.

  • W3C WebFonts Working Group to meet at ATypI in Reykjavík

    The WebFonts working group of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) will be meeting in Reykjavík, Iceland, on Sept. 13, 2011, to finalise the development of the conformance test suite and prepare a draft implementation report on Web Open Font Format (WOFF). The meeting is hosted by ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale); the meeting will take place a day before this year’s ATypI conference starts, which will allow all the participants to take full advantage of ATypI workshops and tutorials.

    The Type Directors Club has just posted the first announcement of its annual type design competition, TDC² 2012. The jury, chaired by Maxim Zhukov, includes Roger Black, Matthew Carter, Paul Shaw, and Erik Spiekermann. The deadline for submission is Friday, 16 December 2011.
