The conference, which will take place between 10 and 14 October in Kowloon, Hong Kong, will take ATypI to Asia for the first time in its 56 years.

Keith Tam, who teaches typography and information design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and heads the local organising committee, said: "We have had a last-minute rush of submissions for the conference and several requests for extensions. We felt it was fair to extend the deadline for everyone."

The conference is divided into a two-day preliminary event featuring practical workshops and discussions on technical, business and educational metters followed by a three-day traditional conference featuring more formal presentations.

Organisers are open to proposals for both parts of the conference. Presenters will be chosen partly through a formal review process, and partly through invitation to specialist and keynote speakers. Proposals should be submitted online through the ATypI website. Submissions close at midnight GMT on 30 April.

Keynote speakers will be announced over the next few weeks.
