ATypI event changes due to COVID-19 pandemic

ATypI Paris and Stockholm events postponed by one year; planning for a late 2020 online conference in the works.

ATypI event changes due to COVID-19 pandemic

We know you’ve been waiting for news about our Paris conference, which was scheduled for October 27–31, 2020. We apologize for our silence, as we have been struggling with decisions during the unprecedented situation we all face.

We have long looked forward to gathering our type family in the glorious, electric capital of France. During a typical ATypI event cycle, spring is incredibly busy and exciting. It’s when we review presentation proposals, plan as many exhibitions as we can possibly fit in the venue, finalize locations for the closing party and other social events, work on menus with the caterers, and about a million other things particular to each city.

But this is far from a typical year. Like you, we see the news daily, and we worry about our friends, our colleagues, and our loved ones all over the world, Our global battle against the novel coronavirus pandemic continues. And we do not feel that continuing to plan for a live in-person event in six short months is the right thing to do for our community.

ATypI Paris and Stockholm events postponed by a year

Out of an abundance of caution and consideration for health and safety, we have made the difficult decision to postpone ATypI Paris. Rest assured, we are not canceling, but postponing Paris until late 2021. And we are happy to report that we are not canceling ATypI 2021 Stockholm, but moving it to 2022.

So what do we do this year? We’re going virtual.

We’re not forgetting about 2020. Far from it. We are looking forward to bringing our community together later this year at ATypI’s first virtual conference. There’s no way to replicate a live event online, and we wouldn't even try. But there are some exciting possibilities with virtual events that will allow us to go beyond what we can offer at a single in-person conference. We're going to build a unique experience that’s inclusive, accessible, and engaging. ATypI 2020 will offer exceptional educational and networking opportunities, and a way to forge global connections far beyond what’s possible in the physical realm.

In the coming weeks, we will survey our community broadly to discover everyone’s ideal vision of an online ATypI. A bit later, we will issue a revamped call for submissions for presentations, workshops, exhibitions, and the other essential elements of a good conference. Many of our sponsors and partners have already expressed their wholehearted support for the idea of a virtual event. We are grateful for their encouragement, and we look forward to working with them and all who support our community in so many ways.

As with every ATypI conference, we will be looking for volunteers to help make the event the best it can be for our community. We look forward to working with a great team from all over the world this year, and in years to come.

Thank you for your understanding, and for your longtime support and for being part of the ATypI community. More details to come soon. If you’d like to get in touch, .

Take care, and stay safe and healthy.
