Google's Android platform includes a set of fonts specifically designed and engineered for reading on mobile device screens. This talk will discuss the unique challenges of designing user interface fonts; why an investment was made in creating fonts unique to Android; what the linguistic requirements are for a cohesive global product; and what are the ways fonts are tested to insure a positive user experience. The talk will be given in three parts: Steve Matteson, Creative Type Director for Monotype Imaging will discuss the design of the Android fonts; Pascal Zoghbi, owner of 29ArabicLetters will discuss the design of the Droid family's Arabic fonts; Dawn Shaikh, Sr. User Experience Researcher for Google will discuss font usability testing and research techniques.
