Dawn Shaikh

Dawn Shaikh is a senior user experience researcher at Google. In this role, she conducts both qualitative and quantitative user research for various products with a focus on fonts and reading. Since joining Google in 2007, Dawn has combined her user experience training and love of typography, contributing to several teams including Google Web Fonts, Docs, Ebooks, Android & Internationalization. Dawn received her PhD in human factors psychology from Wichita State University, where her studies were supported by a grant from Microsoft's Advanced Reading Technologies group. Her master's thesis focused on line length in news & narrative articles. After evaluating the legibility of ClearType fonts, she shifted her focus to the perception of fonts on screens. Her dissertation focused on the perception of typeface personality & appropriateness.
