Programme Preview

We’re putting the finishing touches on the ATypI 2018 Antwerp programme, and working on adding a few special surprises. In the meantime, feast your eyes on our keynote speakers and plan your typographic travel calendar with our schedule overview.

ATypI 2018 keynote speakers

Five amazing voices in type will present keynotes at ATypI 2018 Antwerp Type Legacies: Annie Bocel, Matthew Carter, Sara De Bondt, Nelly Gable, and Fred Smeijers.

Carter will open the conference on Wednesday evening, September 12. Smeijers will present at the end of the day on Thursday, September 13, with De Bondt starting the day off on Friday, September 14. Bocel and Gable will offer a joint keynote presentation to close the show on Saturday, September 15. Stay tuned for more details on these talented designers/thinkers and what they’ll share with us to complement the themes explored by the other stellar speakers on this year’s roster.

Programme Overview

Day 1: Tuesday, September 11—Optional Workshops

Hone your skills with our technical, business, and craft workshops. These focused half- and full-day sessions cover diverse topics ranging from type design, sign painting, variable fonts, responsive typography, scripting, and much more.

Day 2: Wednesday, September 12—Forum Day and Special Event

Part of the main programme, the forums return this year, with two tracks focusing on type tech, business, education, and much more. After a day of listening and learning, we'll relax at a reception followed by our opening reception and keynote.

Days 3–5: Thursday–Saturday, September 13–15—General Session

This year’s general session features three info-packed days of programming, with dozens of presentations by seasoned professionals and new voices. Concurrent with the talks, you’ll find inspiring exhibitions, live demos, and interactive type play, along with loads of opportunities for networking and socializing. Saturday night will also feature ATypI's festive closing night party!
