We’re all familiar with typefaces designed for newspapers, books, wayfinding systems, and more. But what criteria and specifications does a TV typeface need to meet? How is a typeface viewed on the screen? Over the past several years, televisions have made significant technical advances. Czech Republic television stations have been using original custom typefaces for several years. This talk presents an overview of Czech “television type” from the 1960s until today, showing original typeface designs, archive materials, current approaches, rare videos, and "type in motion" from TV’s archives.
