Paul Ng

Paul Ng began his design study in HKPolyU; then he continued his study in California Institute of the Arts and received his BFA with major in Graphic Design. After working in LA for a year, he furthered his studies specialised in Computational Design and graduated with a MFA from UCLA.

He founded his company Raster Mode Ltd in the early 90's which has been providing wide range of communication design services for different clienteles ranged from multinational corporations to local SMEs. He has provided both design consultation and creative service for Monotype Imaging Hong Kong for more than twenty years. In the long-term collaboration with Monotype, he has developed a database publishing system for handling type specimen book publishing which enables layout for hundreds of Chinese fonts in different sizes within a short time. Besides, he also develops many other design algorithms with AppleScript for experimental typographic design where some of the designs created have been applied to the packaging and promotional materials of the company.

Besides practicing as a professional designer, he also teaches in different tertiary educational institutions including Hong Kong PolyU and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from time to time. He is the Founding Chairman of Hong Kong Design Community and a former Member of the DesignSmart Initiative Assessment Panel of CreateHK; currently he is the Hon Treasurer of School of Design Alumni Association of the Hong Kong PolyU.
