Philippe Millot

André Baldinger and Philippe Millot

Swiss-born André Baldinger and Philippe Millot, a native of France,
studied typography and type design together at the Atelier national de création typographique in Paris where they graduated in 1994 and 1993. After their studies each one opened his own design bureau. They work mainly in the cultural sector in the fields of type design, book design, poster design, visual identity and sign systems. Both publish, exhibit and lecture regularly about their work, some of which can be found in the collections of the Design Museum Zurich in Switzerland, the National Library of France and the Toyama Museum of contemporary Arts in Japan. They have also received many awards for their work (New York TDC, Tokyo TDC, most beautiful French books, best international book design at Leipzig, Excellence typographic award …).

They teach typography and type design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Together they head the type design unit of the Creation and Innovation Research Centre/EnsadLab Type at Paris. The type for electronic media project is the second one developed in this new stucture which was founded by the two in 2008. Four research students joined this programme in 2010.
