We need to talk about standards

Never before, in the history of type, have we had more creative diversity than now. Every day, new designs are published, and some of them are bound to become classics in the future. Yet, as it was at the very beginning of moveable type when there were few agreed standards for how type was produced, today type users’ expectations as to what a font contains may well be disappointed.

This presentation aims to start a discussion on how we, as an industry, can implement standards for all fonts that are produced and sold commercially, and how we can define a terminology which users can rely on to be consistent, irrespective of where the font comes from. In addition, the presentation illustrates how agreed standards lead to increased profitability.
