Typefaces are elegant systems, and the websites that sell them need to be too. This talk tells the story of how two very different type foundries built their eCommerce platforms—the setbacks and struggles, what was learned, and what was achieved. The talk will be accompanied by images of the many iterations developed, a comparison of worrisome timelines, insightful moments of clarity, and much more. MCKL is a Los Angeles–based type foundry and design studio run by Jeremy Mickel. They have offered retail licenses for almost ten years through other foundries and distributors but their new platform will be their first opportunity for direct web sales.

The Designers Foundry (TDF) (formerly Ten Dollar Fonts) has been a New Zealand–based type foundry since 2012. Previously selling through Shopify, TDF has elected for a new platform to target their clients more effectively.
