Profession: Meier’s typeface, Syntax-Antiqua, which was based on his concept for a contemporary Humanist sans serif, was one of the most important contributions in type design of the last century. His Syntax served as an inspiration to many young designers and thus deserves to be credited as a forerunner of a genre that is today widespread. 2. Education: Hans Eduard Meier taught the art of lettering and typography for many decades in Zurich where he furthered the knowledge of his teacher, Alfred Willimann. 3. Since 1959, Meier’s calligraphic interpretations have been internationally considered a staple in university libraries for graphic design etc. 4. Technology: Through his work at the ETH in Zurich, Meier became one of the few pioneers worldwide who used the computer as a tool by designing original typefaces directly on screen. 5.
