Exhibition : Aldus Manutius: The struggle and the dream
Aldus Manutius (c. 1450-1515) is a towering figure in the history of the book. He and his partners established the Aldine Press in Venice and his legacy includes the italic type, a number of first editions, and his trademark pocket-sized octavo volumes of classical Greek and Latin texts. This display at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, to mark the 500th anniversary of his death, tells the story of Aldus's remarkable career through books held in their collections.
