Lettres Type, new typeface design in France

The exhibition LETTRES TYPE reports on the vitality and diversity of a new French-speaking type scene, by documenting 40 projects of custom typeface designs, from 40 designers, in 3 different ways.

This collaborative and collective exhibition focuses on type in use and exclusively collects commissioned typefaces or typefaces designed as a response to graphic- or typographic design commissions.

LETTRES TYPE pulls typography out of the specimens and displays typefaces in their context of use.

Whether it is a book, a visual identity or a website, each typeface is shown in its context, putting the stress on the quality of answers to a specific visual problem. Beyond the design process and pure type shaping, the exhibition explores the relationship between the typeface designer and his or her client.

3 types of documents are featured: research documents such as sketches, presentation documents such as specimens, in use documents. In some case, books or other physical objects of application are also presented.

Graphic designers, students and teachers in visual arts, clients and typophiles are hereby invited to get to know those designs better.

Exhibition from nov. 17th to dec. 31st, 2011, at the My. Monkey Gallery in Nancy, France.
Opening: nov 17th.
A day of lectures and round table is organized on friday, november 18th at the Nancy School of Arts. Free entry.
