SDS + IDA’s Christmas Talkfest

A joint SDS and IDA event hosted by the University of Reading: a festive celebration of signs, wayfinding, typography & information design.
What Typography

This year Sign Design Society (SDS) and Information Design Association (IDA) join forces for their Christmas Party and celebrate with a selection of short talks from a mix of speakers across both industry and academia. The talks will cover a diverse range of topics within information design, typography, sign design and wayfinding.

As well the chance to meet and see the work of the next generation of designers and see some of their work, you'll have an opportunity to view material from the University of Reading’s world class archives, including the Otto and Marie Neurath Isotype Collection.

There will be food, drink and plenty of time to network.

So come to Reading for a veritable selection of treats to kick off the Christmas festive season.

Speakers & talks confirmed so far include:

Alison Black (Professor of User Centred Design, at the University of Reading):
‘From forms to action’

Alex Dale (Populous Activate):
‘People, places, purposes’

Mark Hollington (Newman Displays):
on theatre signs and displays, including the award-winning sign for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Joan Zalacain (Zalacain information design & wayfinding):
‘Qibla: Mecca smart wayfinding system’


Date: Wednesday 7th December 2016

Time: 5pm to view collections; 6pm for talks

Venue: Typography & Graphic Communication, Whiteknights Campus (Earley Gate), University of Reading, Reading, Berkshire, RG6 6BZ

Travel: The nearest station is Reading Rail Station. Buses near the station to the Earley Gate entrance at the Whiteknights Campus: 19A, 19B or 19C from Station Road (Stop SA)

Price: This talk is free to members and £25 to non-members. If you are attending an SDS talk for the first time, we are offering a 'taster fee' of £10 payable on the door. Please email to register.
