David Pearson : Type as image

During his career as a book cover designer, David Pearson has focussed on the communication of messages through using typography alone, crucially allowing the reader to interpret and determine the meaning for themselves. David will take us through historical examples of ‘type as image’, leading through to his own work with Penguin Books and other major publishing houses.

In 2007, he was named by The Guardian as one of the 50 best designers in Britain. Pearson is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI), a club comprised of the world’s leading graphic designers. He played a key role in Penguin Books’ recent revival through projects such as the award-winning Great Ideas series and Penguin by Design, a design retrospective that went on to become an exhibition at the V&A. David Pearson is a designer and teacher and has taught at Central Saint Martins, The University of Reading, ÉSAD France and is one of the founding teachers at the Typography Summer School.
