Information for attendees of ATypI Working Seminar Amiens 2020

Tomorrow kicks off our first event of 2020. This edition of the Working Seminars is presented by ATypI in partnership with ESAD Amiens (France). Read on for essential attendee info.

Thursday and Friday—6–7 February
ESAD Amiens School of Art and Design
Temporary entrance: Left side of the building at Rue Alfred Manessier
Main entrance address: 40 Rue des Teinturiers, 80000 Amiens, France

Presented by the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI) in partnership with the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design.

This event is generously sponsored by the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, the Région Hauts-de-France, Amiens Métropole, and Google.

ATypI’s first working seminar of 2020 kicks off tomorrow (Thursday, 6 February) at École Supérieure d’Art et de Design (ESAD Amiens, France). This exciting two-day program opens tomorrow with registration and coffee beginning at 8:30 am.

Please note that the location to enter ESAD Amiens has changed. The main entrance to the school is temporarily inaccessible.

Important Update and Location Entry Note

This morning, a small group of students from the University Faculty of Arts, which shares the same building as ESAD Amiens, decided to begin a strike and to block the main entrances, including the ESAD Amiens school’s entrance. This is a peaceful protest against the pension system reform planned by the French government. Students and staff were able to enter the school this morning through several other entrances on the left side and the back of the building.

The blockade will continue tomorrow. Therefore, ESAD Amiens has changed the meeting point for registration for the ATypI Working Seminar. Between 8:30 and 9:30 am, a small group of students will welcome preregistered participants outside the ESAD Amiens building to guide them to the left side, at rue Alfred Manessier, where there is another entrance. Registration will take place inside the building.

Programme Information

After registration, Barbara Dennys, Director of ESAD Amiens, will present welcome remarks, followed by a keynote presentation by ATypI Board of Directors President Gerry Leonidas of the University of Reading.

A full program of presentations, panel discussions, Q&A, and other activities will take place over the next two days. An on-site lunch tomorrow and Friday, as well as tomorrow night’s dinner, will be provided courtesy of ESAD Amiens.

Additional presenters and panelists include Sahar Afshar and Caroline Archer, Centre for Printing History and Culture, Birmingham; Tiphanie Chivot, Patrick Doan, and Sébastien Morlighem, ESAD Amiens; Matthieu Cortat, Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL); Petra Dočekalová, Academy of Arts Architecture and Design (UMPRUM), Prague; Borna Izadpanah and Titus Nemeth, also of the University of Reading; Sarah Kremer, Atelier National de Recherche Typographique/ESAD Amiens; Rathna Ramanathan, Royal College of Art, London; Dan Reynolds, Braunschweig University of Art; Alice Savoie, University of Reading/Atelier National de Recherche Typographique; and Ana Catarina Silva, Escola Superior de Design/IPCA, Barcelos.
