Description Schwabacher, a special variety of blackletter, was created in Nuremberg as a German answer to the French Bastarda hand. Between 1480 and 1530 it dominated the German print. There have been many typefaces whose letterforms were based on the Schwabacher model. This freely-distributed digital font, Alte Schwabacher, has been produced by Dieter Steffmann of the Typographer Mediengestaltung in 2001.
