Morisawa Type Design Competition Announced

The Morisawa Type Design Competition has recognized innovation in type design for more than 30 years. The submission period for this year's competition will open May 1 and run through July 31, 2016.

Morisawa Type Design Competition Announced

The Morisawa Type Design Competition has given birth to new typeface designs since the inaugural Morisawa Awards International Typeface Competition was held in 1984. A showcase for bold ideas and unprecedented expressive capacity, the 2012 and 2014 competitions received more than 1,000 entries from over 20 countries and regions.

The competition is comprised of two categories, Kanji and Latin. In each category, the Morisawa Award calls for typeface designs of unparalleled creativity and aesthetic excellence. The Akashi Award, which solicits proposals for commercialization by Morisawa Inc., enables exceptional typeface designs to quickly reach users. As part of the competition, the popular People’s Choice Award invites the general public to cast votes for their favorite entries.
