Eye Archive Night at ATypI 2013 Amsterdam
|When||Oct 09, 2013 from 05:00 PM to 06:30 PM|
Over the past year or so, the international design quarterly has organised similar events in London (at the V&A and St Bride Library) and New York during Monotype's Pencil to Pixel exhibition.
The format is simple: half a dozen interesting people – designers, academics, historians, writers – each select an item from the archive in question, and talk about it for five or ten minutes before an audience. The short talk can be illustrated with slides, or with a visualiser to project details of the item(s) in question for the audience.
For the October event, which coincides with the beginning of the annual AtypI conference, the archive is that of the Special Collections of the Library of the University of Amsterdam.
The guest speakers include designer Joost Grootens (see Eye 78), Mathieu Lommen, Dutch design legend Irma Boom, type designers Henrik Kubel, Marina Chaccur and and Experimental Jetset. The event will be chaired by Eye editor John L. Walters and Eye art director Simon Esterson.
Eye is the world's most beautiful and collectable graphic design journal, published quarterly for professional designers, students and anyone interested in critical, informed writing about graphic design and visual culture. The magazine was founded in 1990, and became fully independent in 2008, when Esterson and Walters bought the magazine in a management buy-out.
