TypeCon2014 for Washington DC
The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) is pleased to announce that The City of Magnificent Intentions — Washington, DC — has been selected as host city for TypeCon2014 — 30 July to 3 August.

The magic of type design
From 10 September until 2 October 2011, Expert class Type design (EcTd) 2010–2011 students of the Plantin Institute for Typography will show their work at the famous Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp. The title of the exhibition is ‘De magie van het letterontwerpen | Van schets tot digitale letter’ (‘The magic of type design | From sketch to digital type’).

Modern Cyrillic 2014
An international type design competition, Modern Cyrillic 2014, has been launched in Russia. Its organisers are ParaType, the premier Russian digital type foundry, and Type, the online typographic journal, both located in Moscow. Modern Cyrillic 2014 is a sequel to Kyrillitsa’99 and Modern Cyrillic 2009.
MAPPING GRAPHIC DESIGN HISTORY IN SWITZERLAND. Symposium & Workshop
In Switzerland, discussions on Graphic Design History have traditionally been led by practitioners, by art historians and expert organizations, and by professionals within practice-based design education. However, with the establishment of Swiss Universities of the Arts and Design, the field has begun to shift towards more academic research projects, yet it still lacks structures for research training, discussion and exchange.
